Goals aplenty in Primary Cup ties

THERE were goals aplenty in the third round of the Suffolk Primary Cup.

THERE were goals aplenty in the third round of the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup on Saturday.

A total of 71 goals were scored in a total of 14 fixtures – one was postponed and another abandoned – at an average of more than five goals a game.

There were nine goals in the game between former winners Stage and Grundisburgh Reserves, Stage winning 6-3.

There were seven goals apiece in the games at Cavendish, Ipswich Valley Rangers, Kirton Athletic and Occold.

Only one of the 14 ties went to penalties – Kesgrave Kestrels winning 5-4 from the spot following a 2-2 draw with Claydon A.

The draw for the fourth round for the McDonald's Suffolk Primary Cup (pictured above) will be announced via the Suffolk FA twitter feed on Tuesday lunchtime at 12.30pm.

The two outstanding third-round ties in this season’s Suffolk Veterans’ Cup produced a further 17 goals on Sunday.

Two-time former winners Bury Town beat Black Boy 4-0, while current holders Whitton United defeated Ipswich Phoenix 12-1.

Bury Town will be away to Barham Athletic and Whitton United will travel to AFC Hoxne in the third round on Sunday, January 12th 2020.
