Duo bid for hat-trick of Primary Cup wins

TWO teams will bid for a hat-trick of wins in the Suffolk Primary Cup.

BOTH Hope Church and Kesgrave Kestrels will be bidding to make it a hat-trick of wins in this season’s McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup this weekend.

The third round is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, with both teams having successfully negotiated two rounds so far and now setting their sights on a place in the last 16.

Along with Stowupland Falcons, who subsequently lost in round two, Hope Church and Kesgrave Kestrels were winners in the three first-round ties.

Hope Church were 4-1 winners at home to Woolverstone United Reserves, while Kesgrave Kestrels also scored four times but without reply versus Mutford & Wrentham Reserves.

A 1-0 victory over Somersham Reserves then saw Hope Church progress to this stage, Meanwhile, Kesgrave Kestrels were winning 3-1 at Southwold Town Reserves.

Both teams now have home advantage in the third round – Hope Church entertain Bacton United 89 Reserves and Kesgrave Kestrels welcome Claydon A.

The draw for the fourth round will be announced via the Suffolk FA Twitter feed next Tuesday lunchtime at 12.30pm.

Action is pictured above from last season's final between AFC Sudbury A (red shirts) and Old Newton United Reserves (yellow shirts) at Portman Road. AFC Sudbury Reserves won 4-2.

There are two outstanding third-round ties to be completed in this season’s Suffolk Veterans’ Cup.

Both Sunday’s fixtures, which feature past winners of the competition, fell victim to the weather on the original date.

Bury Town, the 2014-15 and 2015-16 winners, host Black Boy, while Whitton United, the current holders, play Ipswich Phoenix.
