Free grass pitch management evening

A GRASS Football Pitch Management Evening is being held next month.

A GRASS Football Pitch Management Evening is being organised by Suffolk FA and the Institute of Groundsmen.

The evening, which is being organised as part of the Suffolk FA Pitch Improvement Programme, is taking place on Tuesday, May 7th.

It will be led by Ipswich Town’s head groundsman Ben Connell and will take place at the club’s Playford Road Training Centre from 6.30pm until 9pm. The event is free and light refreshments will be provided. Ben Connell (right) is pictured above with Bacton United 89 groundsman Bryan Symonds.

The workshop is open to grassroots football groundsmen, club chairmen and secretaries, and the emphasis will be on post-season renovations and maintenance on a budget.

Topics to be covered will include:

  • Pitch Improvement Programme
  • Aeration
  • Seeding
  • Fertilisers
  • Surface Levels
  • General Pitch Maintenance

Phil Jeggo, Regional Pitch Advisor East for the Institute of Groundsmen, said: “The main focus of the evening will be to see how Ben and his team carry out their end-of-season restorations and renovations at the club training ground pitches and what work is involved to achieve this.

The evening will also provide an insight and information on what is required when considering and completing end-of-season renovations at your club, and why it is essential for maintenance to be carried out.

“This workshop will cover basic end-of-season works through to full renovations, and will provide vital information for groundsman regardless of budget available to complete the required works.

As always, thanks go to Ben and Ipswich Town FC for their continued support to local groundsmen.”
