Four ties settled by penalty shoot-outs

FOUR second-round ties in the Suffolk Junior Cup were settled by penalty shoot-outs.

FOUR second-round ties in the Suffolk Junior Cup on Saturday were settled by penalty shoot-outs.

Halesworth, Mutford & Wrentham, Sporting 87 and Tacket Street BBOB all progressed to the last 16 by virtue of winning shoot-outs.

Holders AFC Kesgrave defeated fellow Touchline SIL Division One side Mendlesham 3-2, while there were mixed fortunes for last season’s two Suffolk Primary Cup finalists.

Bures United, winners of that competition for the last two seasons, lost 2-1 at home to Kesgrave Kestrels, while AFC YourShirts, runners-up to Bures on both occasions, defeated Tuddenham 08 by the same margin.

There were big wins for both Hundon and Old Newton United; Hundon defeated Kirkley & Pakefield Under-23s 8-1 – the same scoreline by which Old Newton United won at Bramford Road Old Boys.

Two teams also hit the back of the net five times – Bildeston Rangers were 5-0 victors at Brantham Athletic A and Ransomes Sports 5-2 winners over Ufford Sports.

A penalty shoot-out was required to separate Walsham-le-Willows and Coplestonians in the second round of the Days Sports Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup, Walsham winning 3-0 following a 1-1 draw.
