ELEVEN first-round ties in the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup dominate this weekend’s county cup fixtures.
Several winners from recent seasons will be in action in Saturday afternoon’s matches.
These include Achilles, the 2017 winners, at home to fellow Touchline SIL Senior Division side Haughley United, who were the 2016 losing finalists.
Waveney, who defeated Haughley 3-2 in that final, entertain Lakenheath, who won the competition in 2015.
Ipswich Wanderers, the 2013 winners, return to Senior Cup action with a home tie versus Crane Sports, who were the 2017 runners-up.
Beccles Town, who last lifted the trophy in 2009, launch this season’s bid with home advantage against Bungay Town, last season’s runners-up.
It was 2008 the last time an SIL side defeated an Eastern Counties League side in the final, Grundisburgh coming out on top 3-2 against Hadleigh United.
Grundisburgh host Haverhill Borough, who are back in the competition after a one-season absence and bidding to go at least one step further than in 2017 when they lost to Crane Sports in the semi-finals. Haverhill Borough (blue shirts) are pictured in action during their 4-1 defeat to Crane Sports at Hadleigh United FC.
There are just two county cup matches on Sunday as the Homestore Self Storage Suffolk Women’s Cup gets under way.
Holders Ipswich Town travel to Ipswich Wanderers, the side they defeated in last season’s semi-final while Washam-le-Willows welcome Beccles Town in the two first-round ties.
