Senior Cup Final Wood Bungay May 2018 3

Portman Road trail starts in Senior Cup

THIS season's CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup starts on Saturday.

SIX sides this weekend start out on the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup trail which could lead to a possible Portman Road final appearance.

Among them are Brantham Athletic Reserves, who reached last season’s semi-final, before being humbled 7-1 by eventual runners-up Bungay Town. Woodbridge Town (black & white striped shirts) are pictured on the attack in last season’s final against Bungay Town (red shirts) at Portman Road. Woodbridge won 3-0.

Brantham Athletic Reserves, currently bottom of the Essex & Suffolk Border League Premier Division, entertain Thurlow Nunn League Division One side Debenham LC on Saturday.

AFC Sudbury Reserves, who also play in the Thurlow Nunn League, have home advantage against Touchline SIL side East Bergholt United.

Danny Laws’ side will be bidding to avoid a repeat of last season’s cup exit – a 3-0 reverse on their own 3G pitch to another SIL Senior Division side in Capel Plough.

Kirkley & Pakefield Reserves lost 4-2 on penalties at Hundon following a 1-1 in last season’s second round, but will be hoping to progress at home to Wenhaston United.

Saturday is also Non-League Day - held to coincide with the international break - and the start of Suffolk FA's Love Football, Live Football Week, a week-long celebration of grassroots football in the county.

It’s second-round day in the Suffolk Sunday Cup, Anglian Radio Kids’ Trust Suffolk Sunday Shield and Suffolk Sunday Trophy.

The pick of the ties in the Sunday Cup sees Ipswich Sunday Football League heavyweights East Bergholt entertain Kitchener Taverners.

East Bergholt currently occupy second spot in the Premier Division – one place and one point ahead of Kitchener Taverners, who are the Sunday Cup holders.
