THERE were goals galore in the second round of the Suffolk Primary Cup.

THERE were goals galore in the second round of this season’s Suffolk Primary Cup at the weekend.

AFC Sudbury A set the ball rolling on Friday evening, winning 8-1 at home to Elmswell, and the goals continued to flow on Saturday afternoon.

A staggering total of 161 goals were scored across 30 ties at an average of 5.36 goals per game!

St Edmunds 1965 led the way with a 12-0 win away to Bury Town Rams, while Kirton Athletic Reserves were 9-1 winners at home to Bramford Road Old Boys Reserves.

Carlton Colville Town won 8-0 at home to Hawthorn United and there were 7-1 wins for Sporting 87 Reserves and Ufford Reserves versus Suffolk Punch Haverhill and Sutton Heath Saxons respectively.

Only seven sides failed to find the net, with East Bergholt A losing 1-0 at Redgrave Rangers in the lowest-scoring tie of the round.

Action is pictured above from the match between Coplestonians A (maroon shirts) and AFC Kesgrave Reserves (blue & red stripes) which the visitors won 3-0.

There were nine goals in the sole Days Sports Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup, with Framlingham Town winning 8-1 at home to lower-league Capel Plough Reserves.

The goalscoring didn’t stop there as there were a further 63 goals in 12 ties in the Suffolk Veterans’ Cup on Sunday.

Nine of those were scored by Whitton United as they walloped Stowupland Facons 9-2, while Bury Town beat Black Boy 7-2 and Old Times were 6-0 victors over Ipswich Phoenix.

There were also plenty of goals scored in the four age groups – U12s, U13s, U15s and U16s – of the Crown Imperial Youth Cups on Sunday.
