Trio reach county cup finals again

Mellis, Woodbridge Town Veterans and Ipswich Town Ladies all booked their places in this season’s Suffolk FA county cup finals over the weekend.

Premier Logos Bury & District Sunday League side Mellis will have the chance to banish the memory of losing last season’s Suffolk Sunday Cup Final on penalties, after beating Bungay Town 3-1 on Sunday at Woodbridge Town FC. Both this season’s Vitavia Suffolk Veterans’ Cup Semi-Finals went to penalties, but only one of the two teams who have dominated the competition in recent seasons won through.

Holders Woodbridge Town beat Barham Athletic 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Bourne Vale Sports & Social Club in Ipswich.

They will now face AFC Hoxne in the final, after they won 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Walsham-le-Willows FCagainst Bury Town, who have contested the last three finals against the Woodpeckers.

Ipswich Town Ladies took a step closer to retaining the HomeStore Self Storage Suffolk Women’s Cup courtesy of a 7-0 success against Ipswich Wanderers at Ransomes Sports Ground.

Their opponents in the final will be AFC Sudbury, who were 5-0 winners versus Leiston St Margaret’s at Whitton United FC.

Raydon Ravens now know they will meet Ipswich Thistle in the final of this season’s Anglian Radio Kids’ Trust Suffolk Sunday Shield, after Ipswich Thistle won their semi-final 2-0 against Moreton Hall Ferals at Long Melford FC.
