Primary Cup Final is to be repeated

THE weather wreaked havoc with the weekend’s scheduled county cup semi-final fixtures.

THE weather wreaked havoc with the weekend’s scheduled county cup semi-final fixtures.

Only two of the nine ties were completed, with six postponed and the other abandoned.

The two ties that did reach a conclusion were the Suffolk Primary Cup semi-finals, with Bures United and AFC YourShirts both winning to set up as repeat of last season’s final.

Holders Bures United overcame St Edmunds 1965 2-1 in a hard-fought match on the 3G pitch at The New Croft in Haverhill on Friday night.

Sterling efforts by Ipswich Wanderers FC ensured the second semi-final went ahead on Saturday afternoon, with AFC YourShirts overcoming Trimley Sports & Social Club 2-1 to book their place in the final.

This will take place on a date to be confirmed at Portman Road between May 8th and 11th, subject to Ipswich Town not being involved in the end-of-season play-offs. Bures United (black & white striped shirts) and AFC YourShirts (blue shirts) are pictured above during last season's Suffolk Primary Cup Final at Colchester United FC which Bures won 2-1.

The HomeStore Self Storage Suffolk Women’s Cup semi-final between Ipswich Town and Ipswich Wanderers at Ransomes Sports Ground was abandoned after 25 minutes following an injury to one of the Wanderers’ players. Ipswich Town were winning 1-0 at the time.

The only other fixture to take place was the Vitavia Suffolk Veterans’ Cup quarter-final between Westbourne Warriors and Bury Town which saw the visitors record an 8-2 win to once again reach the semi-finals.
