Wet weather causes cup postponements

THE wet weather has caused the postponements of some of the weekend's county cup semi-finals.

BOTH of Saturday’s Suffolk Junior Cup semi-final ties have been postponed.

The matches between holders Bacton United 89 and Trimley Red Devils at Woodbridge Town FC and Brandon Town and AFC Kesgrave at Cornard United have fallen victim to the weather.

Sunday’s semi-final of the Anglian Radio Kids’ Trust Suffolk Sunday Shield between Ipswich Thistle and Moreton Hall Youth Ferals at Long Melford FC has also been postponed.

Referee Ryan Thurbin and his fellow officials carried out a pitch inspection around 90 minutes before the scheduled 7.45pm kick-off of the tie between Achilles and Woodbridge Town.

With puddles forming on the pitch and the forecast of continued rain throughout the course of the match he was left with no option other than to call the tie off.

Suffolk FA County Cup Competitions Manager Adrian Moye will now look to re-arrange all the ties and an announcement will be made of the new dates and venues as soon as possible.

The postponement of Friday night’s match came hot on the heels of the news that Portman Road is set to stage four Suffolk FA county cup finals this season.

The finals of the Omni Freight Services Suffolk Premier Cup, the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup, the Suffolk Junior Cup and the Suffolk Primary Cup will be played at Portman Road, subject to Ipswich Town not being involved in the end-of-season play-offs.

The finals will be held on the four days from Tuesday, May 8th until Friday, May 11th, with all four matches kicking off at 7.30pm.

The exact date for each final will follow soon as Suffolk FA take into consideration other cup competitions held by Suffolk and other regional leagues.
