BUNGAY Town boss Richard Daniels says his side have ‘over-achieved’ in reaching the semi-finals of this season’s CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup.

The Hadley & Ottaway Anglian Combination Division One side are one win away from their first appearance in a Suffolk Senior Cup Final for 55 years.

Bungay, who lost 3-0 to Whitton United in the 1962-63 final, meet Brantham Athletic Reserves in this season’s semi-final at Walsham-le-Willows FC on Friday, kick-off 7.45pm.

They booked their place in the last four following a 4-2 victory over Lakenheath in mid-February, but have had to wait until now to play because of a disciplinary issue surrounding the identity of their opponents.

Daniels said: “Not knowing what is going on has affected our league form and we had a blip, but we have turned the corner, and speaking to the lads on Tuesday night everyone is raring to go on Friday.

“It has been described as one of the biggest games in Bungay Town’s history. We have over-achieved to get this far, and for us to have the chance to get to Portman Road is huge.

“We have played well but we appreciate where we have got to and it is now about what happens on the day, so we feel we have a chance.

“Because of the uncertainty over what was happening we have not seen Brantham Athletic Reserves play.

“There will be some pressure because it is a Senior Cup semi-final, but my players will go out and try to put in a good performance.

“I had five or six good years at Gorleston when we won trophies, so hopefully I can use my experience to calm the boys down if I need to.”

Daniels rested his entire side in Tuesday evening’s 3-1 league loss at Scole United, a result that leaves Bungay in eighth place in the table with five matches still remaining.

He added: “After the semi-final we have matches on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of next week. We have played a lot of league games just recently but we have a full strength squad available.”
