County cup finals dates and venues
SUFFOLK FA have now confirmed the dates and venues of all this season’s county cup finals.
Ipswich Town’s Portman Road will stage four finals, with Colchester United hosting two on the same day at their Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Three finals will take place on the 3G pitch at AFC Sudbury on ‘Super Sunday’ as they did last season, while the Crown Imperial Youth Cup Finals will all be at Whitton United FC.
The first of the four Portman Road finals will be the Suffolk Primary Cup on Tuesday, May 8th as Touchline SIL side YourShirts have a league cup final later in the week.
This will be followed by the Omni Freight Services Suffolk Premier Cup on the Wednesday, the Suffolk Junior Cup on the Thursday and culminate with the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup on the Friday.
The county cup finals will kick-off with the triple-header of the Suffolk Sunday Shield, Suffolk Sunday Trophy and Vitavia Suffolk Veterans’ Cup Finals at AFC Sudbury on Sunday, April 22nd.
Suffolk FA County Cup Competitions Manager Adrian Moye said: “I am looking forward to the second Sudbury ‘Super Sunday’ which sees the culmination of three of our county cup competitions – the Sunday Shield, Sunday Trophy and the Veterans’ Cup.
“With the recent wet weather we have encountered it will be good to play on Sudbury's pitch knowing that only snow should cause the day to be cancelled. Famous last words!
“AFC Sudbury provided such an excellent stage for the Sunday footballers and veterans to experience one of the best football venues in Suffolk last season, and such was the success of the three-game day format that it was an obvious decision to ask AFC Sudbury to repeat the day again.
“I am looking forward to the event as it signals the start of the county cup finals which are sure to bring moments of tremendous elation as well as disappointment, but that's cup football.”
Whitton United will this season stage the Crown Imperial Youth Cup Finals Day.
Adrian Moye said: “Whitton United have a great tradition for Youth football and I am delighted that they have agreed to be hosts for this year’s finals.
“It will be a busy time for Whitton United as they will host the KBB Grassroots Festival the week after which will also feature our last final of the season when Beccles Town and Ipswich Valley Rangers meet in the Girls’ Under-13s final.
“Beccles Town Under-13s will be on a long-arranged tour of Holland on May 13th and it will be a tremendous experience for the girls to play abroad and then come back to contest a final.
“On behalf of Suffolk FA I would like to thank Phil Pemberton and Maxine Barnes and the rest of the Whitton United committee for accepting the invitation to host what should be another memorable County Youth Cup Finals Day. “
