Walsham's New Changing Rooms Opened

NEW changing rooms will greet visitors to Walsham-le-Willows FC next season.

The changing rooms, which have been built at a cost of around £225,000, were officially opened on Friday afternoon.

Suffolk FA helped secure funding for the project, which received a grant of £100,000 from the Football Foundation.

The project also received £50,000 from Sport England Inspired Facilities plus smaller contributions from Suffolk County Council, Mid Suffolk District Council, Bernard Sunley charitable organisation and local company DHL.

Walsham’s first team play in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division and the club will be running a total of 25 teams in the 2016-17 season.

Walsham-le-Willows Sports Club, which encompasses the billiards, bowls, cricket, darts, football, running, snooker and tennis sections, has raised more than £20,000 towards the project.

The changing rooms were opened by Richard Martineau, whose father opened the old pavilion in 1973.

Ian Campbell, Treasurer of Walsham-le-Willows Sports Club, said: “Anybody who has any doubt about the role the Football Foundation play in developing local football should look no further than here.

“And we could not have raised the money we have done without the help we have received from Suffolk FA.”

Suffolk FA Football Development Manager Nathan French said: “It’s fantastic to see the new changing rooms completed.

“A lot of work goes into facility projects and it’s only once the building is finished that you feel the reward of all the efforts that everyone puts in.

“Walsham-le-Willows and their great team of volunteers have done a fantastic job over the years in raising funding. You only need to visit their facilities to see how much they have achieved.”
