The FA Basic Referee Course
If you want to qualify as a football referee you will need to do the basic FA referee training course.
The basic FA referee training course provides candidates with an understanding of the 'Laws of the Game' and provides them with the practical skills to be a match official.
Once you have passed the course and registered as a referee with Suffolk FA you will have a qualification recognised throughout England.
The minimum age to book onto and attend a referee course is 14. There is no maximum age.
The course fee is £99 per candidate. All bookings are made through a secure online portal and confirmations of bookings are generated back to you after payment has been made. With limited places per course, bookings are received electronically on a first come, first served basis.
You will be required to enter your FA Number (FAN) and password to book onto a course or create a FAN and password to book onto one if you don’t have one already, you will need to create A FAN. Please Note: You will need to create a new FAN for your son/daughter if you already have a FAN yourself, because the FAN used will be accepted as the person booked on.
Candidates who book onto a referee course are required to read up on the Laws of the Game before attending so that they are aware of the terminology and understanding of law to assist them through the practical course. All referee candidates are required to complete an FA Safeguarding certification and anyone aged 16+ and officiating in Youth Football will need to have a valid FA CRC certificate in place to be registered to referee any matches
