County cup final officials recognised
THIS season’s Suffolk County Cup Final Match Officials were recognised at a celebration evening.
Sixty guests gathered at Henley Community Centre, just outside Ipswich, on Friday evening for the Suffolk FA Referee Celebration Evening.
Guest speaker was Suffolk official George Byrne, who spoke about his career from doing the basic referee course to officiating at Wembley Stadium on four occasions.
George, who in August 2018 was named Match Official of the Year in the FA and McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards, refereed the Suffolk Premier Cup Final in the 2019-20 season.
He was in the middle for the first leg of the final between Needham Market and Lowestoft Town which was played over two legs the following season after Covid had delayed the final
Suffolk FA Referee Development Officer Ben Bowles, who organised the event, said: “It was a special evening to be able to share and celebrate other people’s successes as a result of their hard work and dedication over the course of the season.
“Suffolk FA look forward to supporting all the match officials at their respective county cup finals between now and the end of the season.”
