Andy's huge pride in referees' progress
ANDY Wilding says he takes ‘huge pride’ in seeing referees progress in Suffolk.
A former referee himself, Andy has supported refereeing development in the county through his business Globex Freight Management Ltd since the 2012-13 season.
Globex, who are one of the area’s leading specialists in logistics and shipping, has supported the Suffolk Youth Referees’ Academy programme since the 2012-13 season.
The sponsorship, which is now in its 13th season, was widened at the start of the 2017-18 campaign to cover the development of all referees.

Andy, who along with wife Kim runs the Martlesham-based business which has more than 40 years’ industry expertise, said: “Thirteen seasons has passed so quickly!
“As a former match official and now referee developer, it excites me to be part of the Suffolk FA referee structure. To deliver a basic referee course since 2006 and then referee coaching at the ITFC Academy for the last thirteen years tells you I am passionate about developing young referees beginning a referee career path.
“FA Funding to County FA’s might be a little short so I am pleased to help out the referees’ department in every way I can. It pleases me to assist financing the Referee Academy and the development of referees in particular.”
Andy said he felt his financial support had enabled refereeing to evolve ‘immensely’ over the years.
“I genuinely believe that the Suffolk FA Referee Development Officers along the years have been able to do more for our younger referees with development and attire.”
Alex Shipp, Ollie Langer, Tom Ling, Sully Mapplebeck and Sam Bell among many others have progressed through the Academy and are now enjoying a good level of senior match officiating.
Tom Ling has also since gone on to become the Referees’ Academy Lead Coach, taking over from the long-serving Chris Dale.
Asked how much pride he takes in seeing the Academy recruits progress their refereeing careers both during their time at the Academy and thereafter Andy (pictured above) replied: “Huge pride.
“To see referees that I delivered the basic referee course to, coached them at the Academy and now see them officiating at levels Five, Four and Three, is fantastic. That gives me total satisfaction and a real ‘buzz’ that makes it all worth the while.”
Suffolk FA Referee Development Officer Ben Bowles said: “Suffolk FA would like to place on record our gratitude for the continued considerable investment Andy and Globex Freight Management Ltd have given to support refereeing.
“This invaluable support enables us to develop referees at an accelerated pace that simply wouldn’t be possible without Andy’s contribution.”
