Time for last eight of the Women's Cup

EIGHT county cup ties are scheduled across this weekend.

EIGHT county cup ties are scheduled across this weekend.

Three of those are on Saturday in the third round of the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup.

Two of them – the ties involving Redgrave Rangers versus AFC Kesgrave and Woolverstone United versus Cockfield United – were called off last Saturday due to the frost that wiped out almost the entire Non-League programme in Suffolk.

Both matches and that between Beccles Caxton and Exning United, which is also taking place on Saturday, were postponed before Christmas.

Assuming all three go-ahead, the quarter-final line-up for this season’s competition will then be complete.

That’s the stage that the MH Goals Suffolk Women’s Cup has reached, and the four last-eight matches are all set for Sunday afternoon.

Needham Market, the 2022-23 winners, will travel to Beccles Town, who will be competing in the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time.

Woodbridge Town, who knocked out last season’s losing finalists Stowupland Falcons in the last round, will be at home to Bungay Town. Woodbridge Town (black & white striped shirts) are pictured above during their 3-1 victory over versus Stowupland Falcons (yellow shirts) in the second round in November.

The north of the county’s representation is further strengthened by Waveney, with the Lowestoft-based side hosting holders AFC Sudbury.

AFC Kesgrave, who were 9-0 winners at home to Saxmundham Sports in round two, will have home advantage versus Sudbury Sports.

The outstanding Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup Second Round match between Mildenhall Town and Kedington is also due to take place on Sunday afternoon.
