Memorable weekend for AFC Kesgrave
IT WAS a memorable weekend for AFC Kesgrave in the county cup competitions.
All three of their sides involved in home quarter-final ties won – and convincingly too!
Their first team knocked Capel Plough out of the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup 4-0, the Reserves defeated Ipswich Exiles 3-0 in the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup and their veterans’ side were 4-1 winners versus the same opponents in the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup.
The four semi-finalists in this season’s CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup are now known.
Reigning SIL champions Henley Athletic were 1-0 winners away to Leiston U23s and Whitton United won by the same scoreline at home to Bungay Town. Whitton United (green shirts) are pictured in action versus FC Peterborough (blue shirts) last month.
They join Tattingstone United and holders Trimley Red Devils in the semi-final draw, which will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk on Friday and released via the Suffolk FA X feed on Friday.
AFC Kesgrave will be in the draw for the last four of the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup with Cockfield United, Ipswich Wanderers Development and Stanton.
Both Cockfield United and Stanton required penalties to get past Beccles Caxton and Somersham respectively after 1-1 draws, while Ipswich Wanderers Development were 4-0 winners away to Gipping Gnats.
In The McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup, Samuels saw off Hadleigh United Brettsiders 4-1 and Laxfield returned from Outlon United 3-1 victors.
Redgrave Rangers Reserves face Occold in the outstanding quarter-final tie this coming Saturday.
The semi-final draws for both competitions will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk and released via the Suffolk FA X feed on Friday.
Brantham Athletic U23s won 2-1 at Lowestoft Town Reserves to reach the semi-finals of this season’s Portable Space Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup and will now take on Hadleigh United U23s following Friday’s draw.
AFC Kesgrave, Bury Town, Ransomes Sports and Whitton Colts make up the final four in the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup.
Holders Ransomes Sports won 5-1 at home to Woodbridge Town, while Whitton Colts, last season’s runners-up, won 4-2 versus Ipswich Wanderers.
Bury Town, winners of this competition in 2014-15 and again in 2015-16, won 14-1 at Kedington.
However, both Bury Town Reserves and Ransomes Sports Reserves bowed out of the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Shield, losing 2-0 to Sporting 87 and 3-0 to Old Newton United respectively.
Framlingham Town (1-0 v Waveney) and Capel Plough (5-0 v Martlesham Old Boys) also progressed to the semi-finals of the inaugural competition.
