AFC Kesgrave facing three last-eight ties

IT’S a big weekend for AFC Kesgrave in the county cups this weekend.

RARELY, if ever, can a club have had three adult sides involved in county cup quarter-finals on the same weekend.

AFC Kesgrave find themselves in that position heading into this weekend, with ties in two competitions on Saturday and one on Sunday, all of them at home!

Capel Plough are the visitors in an all-Gateway 14 SIL clash in the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup for their first team while their Reserves are hosting Ipswich Exiles in the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup, both on Saturday afternoon.

AFC Kesgrave Reserves (blue & red shirts) are pictured above in action during their 2-0 victory against Haverhill Town (sky blue shirts) in the third round of the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup in December.

Then on Sunday afternoon AFC Kesgrave are in Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup last-eight action, ironically also versus Ipswich Exiles.

The three other Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup ties involve a further five Gateway 14 SIL sides.

Division One leaders Somersham host sixth-placed Stanton, while Ipswich Wanderers Development (10th) travel to Gipping Gnats, who are third in Division Two.

Cockfield United, who are eighth in Division One, visit Fosters Solicitors Anglian Combination Division Two side Beccles Caxton, who have lost just one of their 14 league games so far.

The other two matches scheduled in the last eight of the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup see Oulton United of Lowestoft & District League Division Two take on SIL Division Three side Laxfield.

Ipswich-based Samuels, currently seventh in Division Three of the SIL, host Hadleigh Utd Brettsiders, second in Division Four.

The remaining quarter-final tie in the Portable Space Suffolk Senior takes place on Saturday as Lowestoft Town Reserves welcome Brantham Athletic U23s for a place in the last four.

The winners will know their opponents beforehand as the semi-final draw will be announced on BBC Radio Suffolk during Friday’s Matchday Preview programme.

Who will join holders Trimley Red Devils and Tattingstone United in the semi-finals of the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup?

Leiston Under-23s, losing finalists in two of the last three seasons, meet reigning SIL Senior Division champions Henley Athletic.

Whitton United, winners of the competition in 2010-11,2011-12 and again in 2013-14, entertain 2017-18 runners-up Bungay Town, who lost on penalties to Leiston U23s in last season’s semi-final.

In addition to the AFC Kesgrave versus Ipswich Exiles tie there are two other all-east Suffolk ties in the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup.

Holders Ransomes Sports host three-time winners Woodbridge Town, while last season’s losing finalists Whitton Colts welcome Ipswich Wanderers.

The other tie is an all-West Suffolk affair between Kedington Town and Bury Town, winners of this competition in both 2014-15 and 2015-16.

The Reserve teams of Ransomes Sports and Bury Town are involved in the inaugural quarter-finals of the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans Shield on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Bury Town Bisons and Bedfield will attempt to play their Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Cup Quatrer-Final that was postponed last Sunday
