AFC Sudbury book place in last eight
AFC Sudbury have stolen a march in this season’s Endeavour Automotive Suffolk Premier Cup.
While Bury Town and Leiston are yet to play their first-round tie, AFC Sudbury have already booked their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Marc Abbott’s Step 3 side won 3-2 at Walsham-le-Willows on Tuesday night, although their Step 5 hosts pushed them all the way.
First-half goals from Josh Allen and Callum Page gave the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central side a two-goal advantage, before George Bugg halved the deficit from the penalty spot before the break.
Allen also put away a penalty early in the second period, but Bugg then scored his second of the night late on to set up a nervy seven minutes of time added on for the visitors.
AFC Sudbury, who have had a poor record in the competition over the past decade for a club of their standing, can now look forward to see who they will play in the last eight.

In the only other tie played on Tuesday, an Ipswich Town XI overcame hosts Stowmarket Town 4-3 on penalties following a goalless draw at Greens Meadow.
Luke Towler, Jesse Nwanueze, Ashton Boswell and Rio Morgan all netted for the Blues, but Leon Elliot’s effort was saved by Charlie de Lara Bell.
Brandon Salisbury, Will Wharton-Richardson and Ben Smith all scored for Stowmarket, but de Lara Bell blazed his penalty over the bar and Woody Williamson saved from Harley Jordan-Smith.
Ipswich will now travel to Cornard United in the second round next Wednesday, the same night as Felixstowe & Walton United host Mildenhall Town in their tie.
The first-round match between Bury Town and Leiston, which was postponed last week because Leiston were involved in an Emirates FA Cup replay, is scheduled for next Tuesday, subject to Leiston not requiring another replay against Hornchurch, who they face in the Third Qualifying Round on Saturday.
The other second-round matches set for next Tuesday are Brantham Athletic v Kirkley & Pakefield, Hadleigh United v Lakenheath, Ipswich Wanderers v Woodbridge Town, holders Needham Market v Long Melford.
