SIL pair are looking to KO visiting sides
THERE’S third-round action in two county cup competitions this weekend.
The five remaining matches in the last 16 of the Portable Space Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup are taking place on Saturday afternoon.
Two Gateway 14 SIL sides who have home advantage against Thurlow Nunn League U23 North Division opposition will be looking to defeat their higher-league visitors.
East Bergholt United Reserves, who are 11th in Division Two of the SIL, host Framlingham Town U23s, leaders of U23 Division North with seven wins from eight games so far.
Halesworth Town Reserves, who sit two places above East Bergholt United Reserves, are at home to the cup holders Stowmarket Town, currently occupying sixth position in their league.
Woodbridge Town will have fond memories of playing at Lowestoft Town in this competition, lifting the cup at Crown Meadow in the 2019-20 season thanks to a 2-1 victory over Beccles Town Reserves. The Woodpeckers’ U23s face the Trawlerboys’ Reserves.
The other two ties also see north Suffolk sides have home advantage as Mutford & Wrentham Reserves entertain Long Melford U23s and Waveney Reserves welcome Brantham Athletic U23s.
All those sides will be aiming to join Hadleigh United U23s, Haverhill Rovers U23s and Whitton United U23s, all of whom were winners last weekend, in the draw for the quarter-finals.
There's one tie in the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup taking place on Saturday, with Ipswich Wanderers Development hosting Framlingham Town 'A'. The other seven matches are scheduled for next weekend.
Playford have already found the back of the net 13 times in two home matches in this season’s Best Badges Suffolk Sunday Trophy.
They will be hoping to make home advantage count again as they clash with Barton Mills, last season’s losing finalists in this competition. Players from Barton Mills are pictured above receiving their runners-up medals after the final at Needham Market FC.
Claydon Athletic, 5-3 winners at The Golden Hind Reserves last time out, and Stanton, who scored twelve times without reply at Bury Bears, meet in another east versus west fixture.
Felixstowe Wanderers have struck 11 goals in their two home ties to date and will be aiming to make it three home wins in a row when they play fellow Ipswich Sunday Football League Division Two side Phoenix.
