Kesgrave sides bid to reach last eight
TWO teams from Kesgrave can still reach this season’s Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup Quarter-Finals.
Kesgrave Kestrels, who have already progressed through two rounds to reach the last 16, are away to Gipping Gnats, who play in Division Two of the Gateway 14 SIL – one league below them.
Kesgrave Kestrels are currently fourth in Division One, once place below AFC Kesgrave, winners of this competition in both the 2017-18 and 2022-23 seasons.
AFC Kesgrave will be wary of visiting Redgrave Rangers, last season’s McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup winners who top SIL Division Two with ten wins and just one draw so far this season.
Somersham, who sit second in SIL Division One behind Saxmundham Sports, will aim to make home advantage count versus their Lowestoft & District League Division One visitors Normanston Magpies.
Woolverstone United were, of course, losing finalists in last season’s competition and will be eager to take another step towards reaching this season’s final when they host Cockfield United.
The Shotley peninsula side occupy 11th position in SIL Division One – two places behind their third-round opponents. Woolverstone were joint-top goalscorers in round two, winning 7-4 against Clare Town.
Woolverstone United (navy blue shirts) are pictured in action against Clare Town (yellow & navy blue shirts) in last month’s tie.
Cavendish, last season’s McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup runners-up, are languishing at the foot of the Essex & Suffolk Border League Division One table with just one win in eight fixtures so far.
However, they were 3-0 winners at SIL Division One side Achilles in the last round and host another side from the same division in Stanton.
The quarter-final draw will take place next week.
There are two outstanding ties in the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup, including holders Ransomes Sports at home to Foxhall Town, and one in the Veterans’ Shield taking place on Sunday.
