Youth County Cups paused for 2020-21
SUFFOLK FA will not be running any Sunday Youth cups during the 2020-21 season.
The decision was made following approval by the Suffolk FA County Cups Panel in the light of the 2020-21 season being affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Suffolk FA offered seven Boys’ Cups from U12 through to U18s and four Plate competitions (U13-U16), plus four Girls’ Cups from U12 to U15 in the 2019-20 season.
However, the only Youth cup to be played during the current season will be the Blue Square Solutions Suffolk Boys’ Under-18 Midweek Cup.
Suffolk FA Chief Executive Richard Neal said: “This is not a decision we relish taking. The Youth County Cups provide Youth teams and players an opportunity to aspire to be crowned the champions of the whole county, playing against teams they may not usually play against on the way.
“We have also held the semi-finals and finals as part of exciting football festivals, with the finals at the Ipswich Town FC training ground at Playford Road.
“Hopefully not offering the Sunday Youth County Cups for the 2020-21 season will give Youth leagues and teams some breathing space as we carefully navigate this most difficult of all seasons.
“We look forward to the Youth County Cups returning for the 2021-22 season.
“The 2020-21 Adult County Cups will continue, along with the U18 Boys’ Midweek Cup, with the majority of competitions starting in October 2020.”
Any club who has entered a youth team into a Youth County Cup will receive a full refund.
