SUFFOLK coaches were treated to a first-hand view of the England DNA in the Foundation Phase.

Pete Sturgess, The FA National Foundation Phase Lead Coach visited the county to deliver a workshop to coaches on coaching this critical 5 to 12 year age group.

He delivered the session to coaches at the Ipswich Town training centre at Playford Road on Wednesday evening.

The England DNA is the playing and coaching philosophy of the England teams, evidenced by the success of the Youth teams, Women’s team and by the current progress of the Men’s teams at the World Cup 2018 in Russia.

The England DNA in the Foundation Phase looks at helping coaches to use a game-based approach for their players and how this can be adapted at grassroots level.

FA National Foundation Phase Lead Pete Sturgess (pictured below) said: “The Foundation Phase DNA aims to provide a positive and memorable first experience of football and being coached for all our young children. Meeting their needs is vital if we want them to keep returning, practicing and improving.

“If we create a really supportive and empowering environment then the players will be able to develop in all four corners of development and, as coaches, we will have the opportunity to release the potential in each young player.”

“Pete’s engaging personality and the rapport he creates with coaches and players alike, made for a great evening of coach education.

“It was great to see so many coaches in attendance and a big thank you to Ipswich Town for their assistance in hosting this at their superb training centre.”
