Girls' Football Booms In Bury St Edmunds

GIRLS’ football is booming in Bury St Edmunds, with a specific hub for girls’ football taking place on Friday afternoons.

Any girl aged 5-11 in Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding areas can now play football in a fun, safe and girls’ only environment!

Football is now the biggest sport for females, with over 2.9 million girls and women in England playing the game on a regular basis.

Suffolk FA wants to ensure that all girls within the western area of Suffolk have the opportunity to play football in a fun, safe and flexible environment.

Girls who are new to the game who want to make friends and play fun games with other girls can join the SSE Wildcats centre this is perfect for girls who are new to football. Details are as follows:

 

 

 

SSE Wildcats Bury

Fridays 4pm-5pm until December 1st

Skyliner Sports Centre 3G, Bury St Edmunds IP32 7QB

£2 per session

 

Alternatively any girl, or group of girls, who are in Years 4&5 (U9/U10) and ready to play in football matches can join the Suffolk FA WAYS League girls’ five-a-side programme as a football team. Details are as follows:

Fridays 4-5pm until December 1st

Five-a-side format

Skyliner Sports Centre 3G, Bury St Edmunds IP32 7QB

£12 per team (approx. £3 per player)

 

There are a number of local teams who enter along with local school teams who are involved in this league on a Friday afternoon.

Suffolk FA Girls’ & Women’s Football Development Officer Rebecca Bolton said: “It’s a really great atmosphere at the Bury girls’ football session on a Friday night, with so many girls of different abilities playing football all in one place.

“With it being FA Girls’ Football Week this week I am hoping plenty more girls give football a try this week. There is also a special guest coming to the Wildcat session!”
