Woolverstone bow out of Junior Cup

WOOLVERSTONE United are out of the Suffolk Junior Cup in their centenary season.

WOOLVERSTONE United are out of the Parkers Pitches Suffolk Junior Cup in their centenary season.

Any hopes the Macron SIL club may have had of celebrating their centenary with a good cup run ended in Saturday’s first-round tie as they lost 1-0 at Melton United.

A one-goal margin was also all that separated the sides in the west Suffolk derby as Elmswell edged past Stanton 2-1.

There were good away wins for Bacton United 89 (3-0 at Beccles Caxton) and Kirton Athletic (4-0 at Bungay Town ‘A’) while Hundon town were 10-4 winners at home to Stonham Aspal.

Wenhaston United defeated Kessingland 4-0 in the day’s other tie.

The remaining first-round Suffolk Junior Cup (pictured above) fixture – Witnesham Wasps versus AFC Kesgrave – is scheduled for this coming Saturday.

Hadleigh United Reserves and Lakenheath Reserves are through to the second round of this season’s Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup.

Lakenheath Reserves were 5-0 winners at Debenham LC Reserves, while Hadleigh United Reserves saw off Haughley United Reserves 2-0.

Three high-scoring matches in the first round of the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup were decided on penalties.

Hadleigh United won 3-2 on spot kicks after a 4-4 draw at Kedington, while Beccles Caxton and Ipswich Vale Exiles drew 3-3 away at Waveney and Aldeburgh respectively, before progressing via penalty shoot-outs.

Six teams – Coplestonians, Henley Athletic, Lavenham, Martlesham Old Boys, Mendlesham and Trimley Sports & Social Club – scored five times each as they went through to round two.

Spare a thought for Bramford Phoenix United and Tay Old Fellas who conceded 38 goals between them as they went out to Woodbridge Town and Ipswich Revolution respectively.
