Demi Bevis-Roadnight, who is Regional Fundraiser and has worked for the charity for the past two years, explains the charity’s work.

First of all tell us about the work undertaken by your charity?

We are there to support families facing dementia through our Admiral Nurse service. Admiral Nurses are specialist dementia nurses. They provide life-changing support for families affected by all kinds of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. Our Admiral Nurses work out in the community, going into people’s homes (when safe to do re. Covid), they work in hospitals and care homes. They also support people on our national dementia Helpline. Our nurses have years of experience working with families affected by dementia. They can advise on symptoms and ways of easing them; on difficulties getting a diagnosis or who to speak to for advice; on the different financial breaks and benefits that people are entitled to; on care homes, hospital stays or getting help in your home; on difficulties accessing care and support in the local area.

Where is your charity based?

Our head office is in London.

How many people work for your charity – full-time staff, if any, and also the number of volunteers?

140 members of staff and around 100 volunteers.

How long has the charity been in existence?

Since 1995.

Do you know how many people you have supported in that time?

We don’t have records that date back that far but in 2017 we supported 40,000. The number of people we have supported has increased by around 10,000 people per year.

Can you say how many people you help each year?

In 2020 we supported 70,000 people.

Have you linked with Lakenheath FC in the past?

No.

How will being the club’s chosen charity help you?

Every £5 raised at your event could cover the telephone cost costs of two families calling our free Dementia Helpline, whenever they need support. It will also raise a huge amount of awareness of Dementia UK and our Admiral Nurse Serivce in your community.

If anyone wishes to find out more about your charity where can they do so?
