Last-eight spots on offer in Senior Cup

QUARTER-FINAL places are on offer in the Suffolk Senior Cup on Saturday.

FOUR Thurlow Nunn League Division One sides will be aiming to overcome lower-league opposition in the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup on Saturday.

No matches have been played in the competition since mid-December last year, but now 12 sides have the opportunity to book their place in this season’s quarter-finals.

Three of those Thurlow Nunn League sides must travel in the third round, with AFC Sudbury Reserves visiting Anglian Combination Division One Bungay Town for a mid-day kick-off at Maltings Meadow.

Lakenheath and Haverhill Borough both face Macron SIL Senior Division One opposition away from home – Lakenheath are at Haughley United and Haverhill Borough take on Trimley Red Devils.

The third match-up sees Thurlow Nunn League Framlingham Town have home advantage against Henley Athletic, losing semi-finalists in each of the last two seasons. The SIL side will be aiming to take a step closer towards the last four and then making it third time lucky by reaching this season's final.

The other two ties feature an all-SIL affair, with Bildeston Rangers hosting Ransomes Sports after the fixture was switched to Consent Lane, and Leiston St Margarets entertaining Anglian Combination Premier Division outfit Beccles Town.

Two sides are already confirmed as being through to the last eight – holders Ipswich Wanderers and Halesworth Town – after their scheduled opponents, East Bergholt United and Benhall St Mary respectively, withdrew from this season’s competition.

There are also six ties taking place in the Portable Space Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup, including holders Woodbridge Town at home to Halesworth Town after their tie was switched to Notcutts Park.

There are also two outstanding ties in each of the Total Football Suffolk Junior Cup and the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup second rounds on Saturday.

The quarter-finals of three Sunday cup competitions are scheduled for the following morning.

There are three ties in the Rushmere Golf Club Sunday Cup, with 2017-18 winners Kitchener Taverners hosting fellow Ipswich Sunday Football League side Portman Rovers.

There’s a full compliment of ties in both the Veo Suffolk Sunday Shield and the Bluefin Sports Suffolk Sunday Trophy, only a week after the previous rounds in a busy end to the county cups season.

A reminder that no spectators are allowed if a match is taking place on private land. Spectators are permitted if the match is taking place on public land but should check with the host club first before attending.

Three sides are through to the quarter-finals of the Blue Square Solutions Suffolk Boys’ Under-18 Midweek Cup after away wins this week. Holders AFC Sudbury won 2-1 at Needham Market on Monday, while Leiston were 4-1 winners at Framlingham Town the following evening.

Walsham-le-Willows made it a hat-trick of away wins when they went through 9-8 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Woodbridge Town on Thursday night.
