Falcons face former Junior Cup winners

STOWUPLAND Falcons will travel to AFC Kesgrave in the Suffolk Junior Cup third round.

STOWUPLAND Falcons will travel to AFC Kesgrave in the third round of this season’s Total Football Suffolk Junior Cup.

They won 2-1 away to Ufford Sports in Saturday’s delayed second-round tie to earn a last-16 meeting away to the 2017-18 winners of this competition. Due to the tight schedule caused by the coronavirus pandemic, with the next round in some competitions taking place this coming weekend, the draws were carried out on Sunday evening.

Brandon Town edged past Elmswell, last season’s McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup runners-up, by the odd goal in three. They will now host Stanton.

Bacton United 89 netted five times on the road at AFC YourShirts to set up a home tie versus Carlton Colville Town.

The two ties in the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup on Saturday saw wins for Clare Town Reserves and Kesgrave Kestrels, who booked their places in the third round courtesy of wins against Great Blakenham Chequers and Somersham Reserves respectively.

Waveney will entertain Needham Market in the quarter-finals of this season’s HomeStore Self Storage Suffolk Women’s Cup following their 7-0 success at Halesworth in Sunday’s second round.

Needham Market required a penalty shoot-out to progress 4-3 on spot kicks following a 1-1 draw with AFC Sudbury.

There were big away wins for holders Ipswich Town, who will be away to East Bergholt United, who themselves scoring seven times, and Haverhill Rovers, who will face Needham Market Reserves in the last eight.

Brett Vale, last season’s losing finalists, went out 5-4 on penalties at Bury Town, who will welcome Bungay Town, 4-2 winners against Woodbridge Town.

Veo Suffolk Sunday Shield holders Haverhill & Hove Albion were beaten 5-1 at home in Sunday’s third round by Baltic United, whose reward is a quarter-final home tie versus Hardy, last season’s Suffolk Sunday Trophy winners.

Gainsborough United defeated Playford United 4-1 to set up a last-eight tie at home to Occold, 5-2 winners at Taverners.

Lakenheath beat Boleyn 4-3 and will have home advantage in their quarter-final tie against Eastbury Eagles, who won 3-2 on penalties at Bury Bowl after a 2-2 draw.

Westbourne Warriors also progressed 4-2 following a penalty shoot-out after their home match against The Feathers ended goalless. They have been drawn away to Barrow, 6-3 winners at The Racing Centre.

Bury United and Ipswich Pythons both reached the last eight of the Bluefin Sports Suffolk Sunday Trophy thanks to winning penalty shoot-outs.

Rushmere & Diamonds Reserves, 3-1 winners against Crafted Athletic, will host Bury United and Ipswich Pythons will welcome Wamil Wasps, who won 2-1 against West Suffolk Wolves.

Chantry Phoenix saw off Bacton United 3-2 to earn a home tie versus Wickham Wanderers, 2-1 winners against Brickmakers Arms, while Cockfield United’s 4-3 success versus Eye Saints has resulted in a home meeting with Stoke By Clare, who defeated Tollgate 2-0.

After beating BOCA Norman Warriors Reserves 5-1 on Sunday, Waveney will now go head-to-head with Barham Athletic in the third round of the Best Badges Suffolk Veterans’ Cup.

Westbourne Warriors, 6-3 victors over Bramford Road Old Boys, will be away to Henley Athletic, who enjoyed a 3-0 success at Kedington in Sunday’s second-round meeting.

Holders Whitton United will host Hadleigh United, while after beating Black Boy 9-0, Bury Town go through to the quarter-finals unopposed as Felixstowe Falcons have already withdrawn from the competition.

County Cup action continues this week with three of the delayed ties in the second round of the Blue Square Solutions Suffolk Boys’ Under-18 Midweek Cup.
