Teenage rampage as Town win cup again

IPSWICH Town beat Brettvale 6-0 to secure a sixth successive Suffolk Women’s Cup win.

IPSWICH Town’s talented teenagers beat Brettvale 6-0 to secure a sixth successive HomeStore Self Storage Suffolk Women’s Cup win.

A team consisting of mainly 16 and 17-year-olds were emphatic winners in the final on ‘Super Sunday’ at Needham Market FC against a Brettvale side appearing in their first final.

Ipswich dominated the delayed 2019-20 final from start to finish at Bloomfields and could even afford to miss a penalty late on.

It took Ipswich just six minutes to open the scoring, Lucy O’Brien scoring (main photograph) with a shot across keeper Amie Chippendale just inside the far post.

It was 2-0 in the 17th minute, Issy Bryant finding the net with a right-footed drive from just inside the penalty area.

That was the way it stayed until the interval, although Sarah Brasero, who linked the play superbly from the middle of the park, struck the top of the crossbar in time added on at the end of the half.

Ipswich required just two minutes of the second period to extend their advantage, Brasero’s deflected shot from the edge of the penalty area beating Chippendale.

It was 4-0 in the 49th minute, Chippendale allowing an angled Kyra Robertson shot to go beneath her body.

Arguably the pick of the goals arrived on 70 minutes, skipper Molly Sutherland scoring from outside the box with a rasping drive.

O’Brien scored her second and Ipswich’s sixth with another good strike in the 83rd minute before Liv Belson saw her penalty, awarded for a handball, crash back off the crossbar just before the final whistle.

On this display the future of Ipswich Town appears to be very bright, while Suffolk Girls’ & Women’s League side Brettvale will reflect on the achievement of reaching the final in only their second season.
