Whitton bidding for a second cup victory

WHITTON United Veterans will be bidding to win their second trophy in two weekends.

WHITTON United will be bidding to win their second trophy in two weekends on Sunday.

The holders take on Woodbridge Town in the 2019-20 Suffolk Veterans’ Cup Final at Hadleigh United FC, kick-off 2.30pm, fresh from lifting the Norfolk & Suffolk Veterans’ League Cup last Sunday.

Whitton United defeated Westbourne Warriors 7-0 – they were 5-0 ahead at the interval – in the final heldover from last season at Whitton Sports Centre in Ipswich.

Their squad is expected to be boosted by the presence of Titus Bramble.

The central defender was one of three former Ipswich Town players in the Whitton United side along with Kieron Dyer and Carlos Edwards that won the 2018-19 final. They are pictured above (left to right) Dyer, Edwards and Bramble after that final.

While Dyer and Edwards no longer play for Whitton, 39-year-old Bramble, who also starred for Newcastle United, Wigan Athletic and Sunderland, is expected to return to the side after being unavailable last weekend.

Despite their impressive pedigree, Whitton will be lining up against a Woodbridge Town side who have been the most successful club in the history of the competition.

The Woodpeckers will be appearing in their sixth successive final, having won two and lost three of the previous five.

They will be seeking to avenge that 4-1 loss in the 2018-19 showpiece to Whitton United in the final on ‘Super Sunday’ at Bloomfields, home of Needham Market FC.
