Shoot-out success in Suffolk county cups

SHOOT-OUT success for Leiston A, Bury Town Veterans and Cornard Dynamos U13 in county cups.

THERE was shoot-out success for Leiston A, Bury Town Veterans and Cornard Dynamos Under-13s in the Suffolk county cup competitions.

This weekend saw the fourth round of the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup and third round of the Suffolk Veterans' Cup played.

In the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup, once again there were goals aplenty  as seven teams progressed to the quarter-final stage, with Halesworth Town Reserves versus Elmswell rescheduled for Saturday, January 25th 2020.

Leiston A needed a penalty shoot-out to make the last eight after a 1-1 draw with Stage FC, who won the 2015-16 competition.

There was a 6-0 victory for Melton United over Walton Wanderers in an all SIL Division Three contest.

The Halesworth Town Reserves versus Elmswell game was postponed and is due to be played on Sunday, January 25th.

In the Suffolk Veterans' Cup there was an eleven-goal thriller with last year’s finalists and 2017-18 winners Woodbridge Town beating Beccles Caxton 7-4. Action is pictured above from the 2018-19 Veterans Cup final between Whitton United (green) and Woodbridge Town (black) at Needham Market FC.

The holders Whitton United triumphed 4-1 over AFC Hoxne, and there were also victories for ETC Lowestoft, Cockfield United, Bungay Town, BOCA Norman Warrior and Bury Town after a penalty shoot-out against Barham Athletic.

The quarter-final line-up will be completed when Hadleigh United meet AFC Thurlow on January 19th.

The draws for the quarter-finals of the McDonald’s Suffolk Primary Cup and the Suffolk Veterans' Cup will take place during the week commencing Monday, January 20th 2020.

As new additions to the Suffolk County Cup programme this year, the Boys U14 and Boys' U13 Plate competitions saw a combined total of eight games played.

The Plate competitions are for non-EJA sides who lost in the early rounds of the cup competition. Cornard Dynamos enjoyed a penalty shoot-out win in the Boys' U13 Boys competition after a 1-1 draw with a good Holbrook Hornets side.

Both Moreton Hall sides scored five times to progress to the next round in the Boys' U14 competition.
