Bildeston Ipswich Town U18 Senior Cup Sept 2019 1

Holders Achilles go out to Lakenheath

HOLDERS Achilles were knocked out in the first round of the Suffolk Senior Cup.

LAKENHEATH knocked out holders Achilles in the first round of this season’s CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup.

Second-half goals from Shaun Avis and Ryan Weaver saw Achilles suffer just their second defeat in the competition in the last four seasons.

Henley Athletic, the side Achilles defeated on penalties in last season’s semi-final, came from 3-1 down to beat Haverhill Borough 4-3 to book their place in the second-round draw.

Ipswich Wanderers left it late to knock out lower league Claydon, scoring twice in the last five minutes to win 2-1.

A good-sized crowd gathered at Bildeston Rangers, who were playing their first-ever tie in the Suffolk Senior Cup against Ipswich Town, who have entered their under-18s into the competition for the first time.

Action from the match is pictured above with Bildeston (red & black quartered shirts) in possession against Ipswich Town Under-18s (blue & white shirts) at Consent Lane.

A well-taken Harley Curtis goal just after half time saw Ipswich Town Under-18s defeat the home team 1-0.

Harrison Bacon scored four times as Leiston Reserves ran out 8-1 winners at home to Bramford United, while Needham Market Reserves netted five times in the first half as they defeated Leiston St Margarets 5-0.

Old Newton United, playing their first match in the competition for several seasons, won 3-1 at home to Waveney, the 2015-16 winners.

The draw for the second round will be broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk from 5.30pm this Saturday.

Suffolk Boys’ Sunday Cup Under-18 holders Bacton United 89 have been knocked out of this season’s competition.

They lost 4-3 on penalties away to Framlingham Town Knights following a 2-2 draw.

In the Crown Imperial Suffolk Boys’ Under-14 Cup holders Needham Market, who defeated AFC Sudbury in last season’s final, beat the same opponents 3-2 in this season’s first round.

The draws for the second-round matches of all the boys’ county cup competitions will be announced via the Suffolk FA Twitter feed this week as follows:

Tuesday: 12.30pm – Boys’ U12 Cup; 5pm – Boys’ U13 Cup

Wednesday: 12.30pm – Boys’ U14 Cup

Thursday: 12.30pm – Boys’ U16 Cup

Both the Boys' Under-15 Cup and Boys' Under-18 Cup will not have a second-round draw. Winning teams will go forward to the quarter-final draw to be held in the New Year
