Needham Mkt Lowestoft Town Premier Cup Final May 2017 1

Opening tie is repeat of the 2009-10 Final

THE first tie in this season's Suffolk Premier Cup takes place on Tuesday night.

THE first tie to be played under the new sponsorship of Turners Hyundai will take place in the Suffolk Premier Cup on Tuesday night.

The match is a repeat of the 2009-10 Suffolk Premier Cup Final between Needham Market and Ipswich Town.

Ipswich Town, whose side included first-team players Pablo Counago and Lee Martin, won that final at Portman Road 4-1.

That was the last time that Ipswich Town won the competition, whereas Needham lifted the cup as recently as the 2016-17 season when they defeated Lowestoft Town 3-2 in the final. Needham Market players and officials are pictured above celebrating after their victory at Colchester United FC.

A good-sized crowd is anticipated at Bloomfields for the visit of Ipswich Town, who last season reached the semi-finals of the competition.

They lost 2-1 to eventual winners Leiston, who play at the same level as Needham Market in the BetVictor Southern Premier Central League.

Needham have endured an inconsistent start to the season, winning two, drawing two and losing three of their seven fixtures so far to sit in 13th place in the table.

The winners will be away to Haverhill Rovers in the second round next month.
