Vets Cup Final Whitton Green Woodbridge black April 2019 3

Good chance to put a new name on cup

A NEW name may appear on the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup this season.

THERE is a good opportunity for a new name to appear on the Days Sports Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup this season.

Of the 23 teams remaining in the competition only three – Hadleigh United, Haverhill Rovers and Stowmarket Town – have previously won the cup.

Stowmarket Town, along with Beccles Town and Old Newton United, have already booked their place in the second-round draw.

Hadleigh United, who defeated Crane Sports 4-2 on penalties in the 2014-15 final following a 4-4 draw, face a local derby this week at Bildeston Rangers.

Haverhill Rovers, meanwhile, will have home advantage against Lakenheath in a west Suffolk derby.

The second-round draw will be announced via the Suffolk FA Twitter feed next Tuesday at 5pm.

Whitton United will start their defence of the Suffolk Veterans’ Cup on home territory, despite being drawn away. Opponents Bramford Road Old Boys have conceded home advantage in their tie – one of 19 first-round matches on Sunday.

The second-round draw will be announced via the Suffolk FA Twitter feed next Wednesday at 5pm.

Action is pictured above from last season's Suffolk Veterans' Cup Final in which Whitton United (green & white striped shirts) defeated Woodbridge Town (black & white striped shirts) 4-1 on Super Sunday at Needham Market FC.

Tostock Pirates, last season’s losing finalists, are at home to Wetherden in the second round of the Suffolk Sunday Cup. Both sides received byes in the first round of this season’s competition.

The seven other ties take place a week on Sunday.
