Elmsett must stop Fusilier from firing

IT'S the semi-finals of this season's Suffolk Sunday Shield weekend.

ELMSETT United will have to stop Fusilier from firing if they are to reach this season’s Suffolk Sunday Shield Final.

Lowestoft-based Fusilier, who play in Division One of the Great Yarmouth Sunday League, have scored 30 goals in just three ties in advancing to the last four.

They meet an Elmsett side who sit third in Division Two of the Ipswich Sunday Football League at Badingham Road, home of Framlingham Town FC.

Fusilier have so far won 13-2 at Carlton Colville Town, 9-1 at home to Ipswich side Taverners and 8-0 at home to Occold.

Elmsett, meanwhile, have netted 15 times in three ties, beating Boleyn 6-2 and Wetherden 6-4 at home, before winning 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out following a 3-3 draw at Westbourne Warriors.

Holbrook Swan will start favourites to win their semi-final versus Walton Wanderers at Humber Doucy Lane, home of Ipswich Wanderers FC.

They currently top Division One of the ISFL with 15 wins and one draw in their 16 matches, while their opponents are second in Division Two.

Added to that Holbrook Swan are the only team in the last four to have previously reached a Sunday Shield Final, before losing 4-2 on penalties to Mellis following a 1-1 draw after extra time in 2016.

Holbrook Swan required a penalty shoot-out to progress past Great Blakenham Chequers 3-0 after sharing six goals in the first round. They then won 4-1 away to Waveney, before beating Sizewell Argyle 6-4 and then winning 3-2 at Capel Plough.

Walton Wanderers were 2-0 winners at Felixstowe Rangers in round two, then beat Bungay Town 3-1, before putting four unanswered goals past Amboed United in their last-eight tie.
