Free-scoring teams meet in Primary Cup

IT'S the fourth round of the Suffolk Primary Cup on Saturday.

TWO teams who each scored eight times in the previous round go head-to-head in the Suffolk Primary Cup on Saturday.

Thurston won 8-3 at Claydon A while Ufford Sports Reserves were victorious 8-4 away to Tacket Street BBOB Reserves in the third round at the start of December.

They now face each other in one of eight fourth-round ties to see who will progress to this season’s quarter-finals scheduled for next month.

Old Newton United Reserves, who lost 4-2 to Bungay Town Reserves in the 2007-08 final, travel to St Edmunds 1965, who went out in last season’s semi-final to eventual winners Bures United.

Another side on the road are AFC Sudbury A, who were 6-1 winners at Ransomes Sports Reserves in round three. They return to Ipswich to face Whitton United A.

Redgrave Rangers, the only side left in this season’s competition to have previously won the Suffolk Primary Cup, entertain Cavendish, who put 12 goals past Wortham without reply in the last round.

Chris Brewster helped himself to a double hat-trick and Haydn Taylor was on target four times.

Bures United (blue shirts) and AFC YourShirts (red & black striped shirts) are pictured above walking out at Portman Road before last season’s final which Bures United won 2-0.
