ITFC to stage six county cup finals

IPSWICH Town FC will stage six Suffolk FA County Cup Finals this season.

IPSWICH Town FC will stage an unprecedented six Suffolk FA County Cup Finals at Portman Road this season.

The most the club has previously accommodated in one season is four finals, which was the same number as were hosted last season.

In addition to the Premier Cup, CNet Training Senior Cup, Junior Cup and Primary Cup finals held last season, Portman Road will host the HomeStore Self Storage Women’s Cup and Under-18 Midweek Cup Finals.

Super Sunday, which has been held at AFC Sudbury and has featured three finals on the same day in each of the last two seasons, will this season take place at Needham Market FC.

The Sunday Cup will join the Sunday Shield, Sunday Trophy and Veterans’ Cup in being staged on the main and adjoining 3G pitch.

Suffolk FA Chief Executive Richard Neal said: “We’re delighted to announce the details of the Suffolk County Cup Finals for this season. We know the hosting clubs will help us to provide a fitting finale to another fantastic season of adult football in the county.

“Hosting finals with two of the flagship local football clubs, both having significantly invested in their facilities over the past 12 months, will provide fitting stages before we head to Portman Road.

“Whilst we may not be able to hold this number of finals with Ipswich Town FC every season, having the opportunity to give so many clubs the experience of playing their finals in such a prestigious setting in Suffolk is fantastic.

“Although AFC Sudbury will not be hosting Super Sunday this season, we continue to explore other schemes and initiatives with this fantastically progressive football club.

“And I place on record my appreciation to Colchester United FC for hosting Suffolk County Cup Finals in previous seasons and wish them all the best in their quest for promotion this season.

“Good luck to all teams in the coming rounds of their respective county cups, and we look forward to seeing supporters of all teams turn out in force to provide fantastic atmospheres at all finals.”

Ipswich Town Secretary Stuart Hayton said: “After the success of hosting four well-supported county cup finals last season, we are delighted to be able to increase that number to six for 2019.

“To give Suffolk’s leading amateur players, both male and female, the opportunity to play at Portman Road is fantastic. It is also rewarding and beneficial for Suffolk-based referees to get the opportunity to officiate at the stadium.

“We look forward to some great entertainment and hope that as many of our supporters as possible can come along and enjoy the games in May.”
