THERE were goals galore in the first round of this season’s Suffolk Junior Cup.

THERE were goals galore in the first round of this season’s Suffolk Junior Cup.

A total of 60 goals were scored in just ten ties on Saturday – an average of six per game – with Bramford Road Old Boys leading the way. They won 10-1 at Ipswich Valley Rangers.

Bildeston Rangers also had their shooting boots on, finding the net eight times in an 8-1 victory over Coddenham Athletic.

Brandon Town, losing semi-finalists in each of the last two seasons, bowed out at the first hurdle, beaten 5-2 at home by Sporting 87.

Bacton United 89, winners of the competition in 2017 and losing semi-finalists last season, also hit five, winning 5-1 away to Walsham-le-Willows A.

AFC YourShirts, runners-up in each of the last two seasons in the Suffolk Primary Cup, made a winning start in their first Suffolk Junior Cup tie, edging past Barham Athletic 4-3.

AFC YourShirts (red & black shirts) are pictured in action against Bures United (blue shirts) in last season’s Suffolk Primary Cup Final at Portman Road which Bures won 2-0.

Three ties ended all square after 90 minutes and were settled by penalty shoot-outs, with Southwold Town, Stonham Aspal and Tuddenham 08 all going through.

The draw for the second round will be announced on the Suffolk FA Twitter feed at 12.30pm on Tuesday.

The first round matches in the Crown Imperial Boys Cups were disrupted by the wet weather on Sunday, with ten ties postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

In the Crown Imperial Boys’ Under-18 Cup the most eye-catching scoreline was a 7-7 draw between Mildenhall Town and Bury Town, with Bury Town winning 6-5 on penalties.

Woodbridge Town also required spot kicks to book their place in the second round, winning 4-3 against West Row following a 3-3 draw.

The draw for the second round of the Crown Imperial Boys’ Cup will now not take place until after the postponed matches have been played on October 7th.
