Colchester United to host two cup finals

COLCHESTER United are set to host two Suffolk FA county cup finals on the same day.

COLCHESTER United are set to host two of this season’s Suffolk FA county cup finals on the same day.

The Weston Homes Community Stadium will stage both the HomeStore Self Storage Suffolk Women’s Cup Final and the Suffolk Boys’ Under-18 Midweek Cup Final on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7th.

The HomeStore Self Storage Suffolk Women’s Cup Final will kick-off at 12 noon, with the Suffolk Boys’ Under-18 Midweek Cup Final following at 4pm, subject to Colchester United not being involved in the end-of-season play-offs.

The Sky Bet League Two club’s ground was used to stage seven Suffolk FA county cup finals last season.

Suffolk FA County Cup Competitions Manager Adrian Moye said: “I am extremely pleased to be able to return to Colchester United for more Suffolk FA county Cup Finals.

“Michelle Tricker and her team were fantastic last season and the two finals this year on Bank Holiday Monday should be great occasions for the players involved.

“A great relationship between Colchester United and Suffolk FA was formed last season and it’s a relationship I hope will continue.”

Colchester United General Manager Tim Waddington said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome back Suffolk FA to the Weston Homes Community Stadium after a very successful first year last time.

“We’re sure that both games will be well contested affairs and, with a burgeoning female football programme via our Football in the Community scheme, we’re sure the women’s cup final will be a popular one.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to Colchester United for the two games.”

The HomeStore Self Storage Suffolk Women’s Cup Final will be between holders Ipswich Town and AFC Sudbury.

Ipswich Town have won the trophy for the last three seasons and five times in the last six years.

That sequence was broken by AFC Sudbury, who recorded their only triumph in the competition so far in 2013-14, beating Brandon Town 5-0 in the final.

Holders AFC Sudbury are already through to the final of this season’s Suffolk Boys’ Under-18 Midweek Cup and will face one of Bury Town, Felixstowe & Walton United or Leiston.
