Abi to officiate Varsity fixture

SUFFOLK official Abi Marriott has been chosen to referee the 2018 Women’s Varsity Match.

SUFFOLK official Abi Marriott has been chosen to referee the 2018 Women’s Varsity Match.

The annual fixture between Oxford University and Cambridge University is taking place at Barnet FC on Sunday, March 25th, kick-off 5pm.

Her assistant referees will be Chris Abbott (Cambridgeshire FA) and Elle Kaplicz (Oxfordshire FA) while Vera Onica (London FA) is the fourth official.

Abi, who lives in Mildenhall, has also been appointed as an assistant referee for the Women’s World Cup Qualifier between Slovenia and Iceland.

This is being held at Sportni Park Lendava, Lendava on Friday, April 6th. Amy Fearn will be the referee and the other assistant will be Sian Massey-Ellis.

These appointments follow on from 25-year-old Abi being selected as an assistant referee at last season’s SSE Women’s FA Cup Final between Birmingham City and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

Abi said: “It is a huge honour to be selected for both these prestigious appointments. I’m especially looking forward to working with Amy and Sian who are known to be the most successful female officials in this country.

“Hopefully I can draw from their vast experience and learn a lot while we’re in Slovenia.”
