Living the Dream county cups slogan

Primary Cup teams 'Living the Dream'

FOUR teams will be ‘Living the Dream’ this weekend in the Suffolk FA Primary Cup.

FOUR teams will be ‘Living the Dream’ this weekend knowing that they are one win away from playing in a county cup final at Portman Road.

At the start of the season the players from AFC Yourshirts, Bures United, St Edmunds 1965 and Trimley Sports & Social Club would not have even dreamed of playing at Portman Road.

But that possibility turned to reality a week ago with the announcement that four county cup finals, including the Primary Cup, will be played at the home of Ipswich Town, subject to the club not being involved in the end-of-season play-offs.

Holders Bures United meet St Edmunds 1965 in the first semi-final on Friday night at Haverhill Rovers FC, with the match set to be switched to the adjoining 3G pitch if the grass pitch is unfit for use.

The second semi-final follows on Saturday afternoon, with last season’s runners-up AFC YourShirts taking on Trimley Sports & Social Club at Ipswich Wanderers FC.

Saturday afternoon also sees the two semi-finals taking place in the Days Sports Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup.

Brantham Athletic host Haverhill Rovers versus Felixstowe & Walton United FC, while Whitton United meet holders Stowmarket Town at Bramford United FC.

The following day it is the Suffolk Sunday Cup semi-finals, with Gym United bidding to reach their second final in successive weeks, after their heroics in the FA Sunday Cup last weekend.

The Bury St Edmunds-based team, who beat Liverpool side Mayfair FC 2-1 to become the first Suffolk side to get to the final of the competition, turn their attentions back to the county cup when they tackle Kitchener Taverners in the last four at AFC Sudbury.

In the other semi-final Bungay Town and Mellis are set to try again at Kirkley & Pakefield FC, after last week’s scheduled tie was postponed by the wet weather.

The match, which was originally due to take place at Kirkley & Pakefield FC, was switched to Woodbridge Town, but still fell foul of the weather due to a waterlogged pitch.

Raydon Ravens will be awaiting the result with interest in the Anglian Radio Kids’ Trust Suffolk Sunday Shield semi-final between Ipswich Thistle and Moreton Hall Youth Ferals at Long Melford FC.

After defeating Laxfield United 2-0 last Sunday, Raydon Ravens will face the winners in this season’s final.

Woodbridge Town will be bidding to make it four consecutive finals in the Vitavia Suffolk Veterans’ Cup when they meet Barham Athletic at Bourne Vale Sports & Social Club.

Bury Town, who the Woodpeckers have played in each of their three final appearances, meanwhile take on Westbourne Warriors for a place in the final four.

It’s also semi-final day on Sunday in the HomeStore Self Storage Suffolk Women’s Cup, with both matches taking place in Ipswich.

Ipswich Town, the holders and favourites, meet Ipswich Wanderers at Ransomes Sports FC, while across town at Whitton United it is AFC Sudbury versus Leiston St Margarets.
