Eight final places are up for grabs

EIGHT county cup final places are up for grabs this weekend.

EIGHT county cup final places are up for grabs this weekend.

Besides one semi-final in the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup on Saturday, it is also semi-finals day in the Suffolk Junior Cup.

Bacton United 89 and Brandon Town are no strangers to the semi-final stage of this competition, after both reaching the final four last season.

It was Bacton United 89 who beat Brandon Town 2-1 to advance to the final, where they then came out on top 3-2 after extra time versus Oulton Broad.

The two teams have been kept apart in this season’s semi-final draw, with Bacton United 89 taking on fellow Touchline SIL Division One side Trimley Red Devils at Woodbridge Town FC.

Trimlety Red Devils sit second in the table – five points ahead of third-placed Bacton United 89, who have actually played three matches more.

The other tie sees Brandon Town, who occupy 11th place in Division Two of the Hadley & Ottaway Anglian Combination League, face AFC Kesgrave, who sit sixth in Division One of the Touchline SIL.

AFC Kesgrave (red & blue striped shirts) are pictured above in action during their 4-1 victory over Kesgrave Kestrels (blue & White striped shirts) in the first round last September.

Sunday sees the first of this season’s Suffolk Sunday Cup semi-finals taking place as Woodbridge Town FC host the tie between Bungay Town and Mellis, who were last season’s runners-up. The tie has been switched from its original venue of Kirkley & Pakefield FC.

There’s also a full house of semi-finals in the Anglian Radio Kids’ Trust Suffolk Sunday Shield and the Suffolk Sunday Trophy.

East meets West in one semi-final of the Anglian Radio Kids’ Trust Suffolk Sunday Shield as Ipswich Thistle tackle Bury St Edmunds-based Moreton Hall Youth Ferals at Long Melford FC.

Laxfield United and Raydon Ravens, who both play in MB1B of the Ipswich Sunday Football League meet at Ransomes Sports FC in Ipswich.

Mildenhall Town FC host the Suffolk Sunday Trophy tie between Bury & District Sunday League Division Four sides Bardwell Sport, who are fifth, and Hardwick, who are second.

The other tie sees Monarchs, who top RM3 of the ISFL, play Pakenham, second in Division Three of the BDSL, at Henley Athletic FC.

There are also four group games in the Crown Imperial Girls’ Cups – two each at under13 and under-15 level.
