Donate Your Old Boots At Portman Road

SUPPORTERS attending Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship match at Portman Road can take along and donate their old boots.

Suffolk FA partnered with Boots2Africa during Love Football, Live Football Week organised by Suffolk FA and sponsored by MH Goals and held last October.

Boots2Africa will now be collecting old boots in the FanZone from 1pm before Ipswich Town’s home match versus Leeds United this weekend.

Iain Finch, co-founder of Boots2Africa, said that donations of boots were now approaching 4,000 since setting up the small family charity-registered organisation, with 3,500 boots in or on their way to children in six countries across Equatorial and Southern Africa.

He said: “A total of 50 pairs left for children at the Chogoli football academy in Malawi on Monday, we've more heading out this month to projects in Ghana and we've a 500-boot shipment is on its way to three clubs in Kenya in February, where we’ll also be returning with boots in our bags with the Colchester United ‘Football in the Community’ project in April.

“So as with our previous match-day donation events we’re looking for Town fans to donate pre-loved, Boots2Africa, Astros and trainers as long as they're in good condition; we’ll also accept old kits too.

“The response from Town fans during our previous match day and Open Day events has been amazing, with over 200 pairs coming in and just as much kit. For millions of children in rural Africa who have only a t-shirt and a pairs of shorts to stand up in, a pair of donated boots, shorts or a fresh football shirt to wear and play football in is an incredibly valuable gift they can use every day that reduces risk from infection and snakebites, promotes good foot health and general hygiene and they too in a World Cup year can dream big like all little boys and girls do!”
