Vets Cup Final 2017 Wood Town v Bury Town 1

Semi-final carrot awaiting winners

THE carrot of a CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup semi-final versus Bungay Town is dangling in front of two Reserve teams.

THE carrot of a CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup semi-final versus Bungay Town is dangling in front of two Reserve teams.

Leiston Reserves and Brantham Athletic Reserves were due to meet a fortnight ago, but heavy rain put paid to the fixture as the Victory Road pitch was left waterlogged.

Since then, Bungay have booked their first appearance in the final four since 1970 courtesy of a 4-2 win at Lakenheath last Saturday, and the semi-final draw has taken place.

With holders Achilles drawn against Woodbridge Town in the other semi-final, a tie against Bungay awaits the winners of Saturday afternoon’s match.

A similar scenario applies regards the Days Sports Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup quarter-final match involving Whitton United and Mildenhall Town.

The two teams face off at King George V ground in Ipswich on Saturday afternoon, knowing the victory will earn them the opportunity to lock horns with holders Stowmarket Town in the semi-finals.

Sunday sees 22 group games scheduled in the Crown Imperial Girls’ Cups from Under-12 through to Under-16s and two Crown Imperial Boys’ Under-12 Cup ties.

It is quarter-final day in the Vitavia Suffolk Veterans’ Cup, with the pick of the ties the visit of holders Woodbridge Town to Whitton United.

Bury Town, winners in both 2015 and 2016, are also in action in Ipswich, away to Westbourne Warriors.

Woodbridge Town (black & white striped shirts) are pictured above in action against Bury Town (blue shirts) in last season’s Veterans' Cup Final at AFC Sudbury which the Woodpeckers won 1-0.
