Suffolk Sides Progress In Both FA Cups

SUFFOLK clubs again generally had a very successful weekend in both the Emirates FA Cup played on Saturday and in the SSE Women’s FA Cup played...

In the Emirates FA Cup, three of the four Suffolk clubs went through to the next round, whilst in the SSE Women’s FA Cup, two of the three clubs from the county progressed to the next round as well.

AFC Sudbury had a convincing double, their teams winning in both competitions. In the Emirates FA Cup (pictured above) they will be joined by Leiston and Needham Market, and in the SSE Women’s FA Cup, by Newmarket Town.

The results in the two competitions were as follows:

 

The Emirates FA Cup Second Round Qualifying:

AFC Sudbury 3 Chipstead 0

Leiston 4 Crowborough Athletic 2

Lowestoft Town 0 Harlow Town 1

Needham Market 2 Chesham United 0

 

The three winning clubs each receives £4,500 from the FA Prize Fund.

 

The SSE Women’s FA Cup Second Round Qualifying:

Newmarket Town 4 King’s Lynn Town 3 aet

Frontiers 1 AFC Sudbury 8

Harlow Town 3 Bungay Town 2

 

The two winning clubs each receives £450 from the FA Prize Fund. The total prize money on offer for the SSE Women’s FA Cup has been tripled by The FA. Almost £240,000 will be distributed throughout this season’s competition, up from £70,000 last year.

The draws for the next rounds were made at Wembley on Monday.

In the Third Round Qualifying of the Emirates FA Cup, where clubs are just two wins away from paying in the First Round Proper, the three Suffolk clubs were drawn as follows:

Oxford City v Leiston

Truro City v AFC Sudbury

Needham Market v Dartford

Matches are to be played on Saturday, September 30th.

In the Third Round Qualifying of the SSE Women’s FA Cup, AFC Sudbury and Newmarket Town are joined by Ipswich Town Ladies, who received a bye to this stage of the Competition. The draw has resulted in the following fixtures:

Cambridge City v Ipswich Town

Wymondham Town v Newmarket Town

Enfield Town v AFC Sudbury

These games are to be played on Sunday, October 8th.

A total of 48 ties will take place at this stage of the competition, with winners progressing to the first round proper. This round sees the introduction of clubs from Division One of the FA Women’s Premier League in the competition. 

Teams from the FA Women’s Premier League Premier Division will join the competition in the second round proper in November, and all of the FA WSL clubs will enter at the third round proper in January 2018.
