Tough Task Awaits In U18 Midweek Cup

THE scholars of Thomas Gainsborough School face the toughest assignment they could have been handed in the quarter-finals of this season’s Suffolk...

The Great Cornard-based school, who are in partnership with the Norwich City FC Regional Development College Football Programme, will be away to holders AFC Sudbury, who won 8-0 away to Hadleigh United in the second round on Wednesday night.

AFC Sudbury (yellow shirts) are pictured in action against Walsham-le-Willows (red shirts) in last season's final at Colchester United FC when they won 5-1.

Bury Town, who beat neighbours Sporting 87 6-0 in the second round, will entertain Felixstowe & Walton United, who have already won twice away in this season’s competition.

Newmarket Town and Haverhill Rovers have been drawn at home in the other two ties, but face a wait to see who their opponents will be.

The draw, which was originally due to be announced last week, was delayed due to three Suffolk sides’ involvement in the FA Youth Cup.

All three sides bowed out of the competition at the Third Round Qualifying stage.

Leiston lost 1-0 at Cambridge City after extra time, while Woodbridge went down 2-0 at home to Bishop’s Stortford and AFC Sudbury were defeated 5-2 at Cheshunt.
