Callum Is Promoted To National List

SUFFOLK official Callum Walchester has been promoted to the National List of Assistant Referees.

This follows on from his selection as an assistant referee at the National League Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium earlier this month.

Callum (pictured above) was also an assistant referee at the FA County Youth Cup Final at the start of April, when he received his Three Lions badge that is given to all officials appointed to FA Finals.

The 24-year-old from Lowestoft, who is a graduate from the Suffolk FA Youth Referee Academy sponsored by Globex Freight Management Ltd, will act as an assistant referee for EFL League 1 and 2 for the 2017-18 season.

Callum will begin his preparation by completing his fitness test next week before the pre-season games begin.

He will still be refereeing at Contributory League Level (Isthmian League and Eastern Counties League) before having to make a decision whether to specialise in the role of a referee or an assistant referee.

Suffolk FA Referee Development Officer Mary Harmer said: “Callum is an example of the opportunities available to referees who work incredibly hard throughout the season.

“We are delighted for Callum in reaching the professional game as an assistant referee.

“It really has been a fantastic season for Suffolk referees with a record number of prestigious end-of-season appointments and promotions.

“I would like to thank our referee workforce who have supported and encouraged our referees throughout the season and also to our referees who have continually dedicated and committed their time to progress in their refereeing careers this season.”

George Byrne, Abi Marriott, Oliver Morris-Sanders and Matt Morrison have all been promoted to Panel Select Assistant Referees.

This means that they will operate as an assistant referee at the National League Premier Division – Step 1 of English football.

They will also continue to act as referees as Level 3 referees at Contributory League level, similar to Callum.
