SILENT Weekend is only one week away - and already 450 teams will be helping create positive match-day environments.
Now in its third year, Silent Weekend, sponsored by Total Football, gives players the chance to show their flair and passion for the game, without direct instruction from coaches or parents.
Suffolk FA Education and Project Officer Mike Phillips, who is leading the event, said: “The support from clubs so far has been excellent; when talking to clubs who haven’t signed up the response is one of surprise that they are yet to sign up. It’s good to know many clubs and leagues expect to be part of these events each season.”
The countywide event is taking place on Saturday February 25th and Sunday, February 26th and already the likes of Haverhill Rovers, Framlingham Town Ipswich Valley Rangers, Sporting 87 and Waveney are backing the event.
There are also three 4v4 festivals taking place at Ipswich Town FC, Haverhill Rovers and Thurston helping create a positive match-day environment for those just starting on their football, and possibly coaching journeys.
Ian Cornforth, who owns Total Football in Ipswich with wife Karen, said: “Total Football are delighted to sponsor the Suffolk FA's third Silent Weekend. We are proud to support such a great initiative which creates a positive environment for all players of all levels.
“After the success of previous weekends, we believe this is now a must in the local football calendar and after many conversations with local clubs we know that the players have greatly benefited from this weekend.
“The ethos of allowing players to take more ownership in matches throughout the county seems to be increasing and that can only have a positive outcome.
“We hope this weekend will continue to encourage the managers and parents to allow the children to make their own decisions and think for themselves.”
