Dual Admin Role For New Employee Mel

MEL Sticklind will be combining working as a Football Services Officer and Youth Referee Appointments Officer in her new role at Suffolk FA.

The 25-year-old, who started work at the county’s headquarters in Stowmarket on Tuesday, will provide support for the Football Services Department and assist Ian Atkins with Youth Referee Appointments.

Mel, who was born and bred in Saxmundham, was a member of the Ipswich Town Centre of Excellence between the ages of 14 and 16.

She graduated with a BSC in Sports Coaching and PE at Oxford Brookes while on a football scholarship, and during her three years at university played for Oxford United Ladies.

It was after finishing university that Mel, who is a striker, took up an offer to play for women’s team Birkirhara FC in the Maltese Premier League for six months.

Mel (pictured above) said: “I had an amazing time and it was a great experience – I had always wanted to play abroad.

“It was a completely different culture and on the playing side I had to change my game.”

Mel, who is currently playing for Ipswich Wanderers Ladies, worked for Nuffield Health as a fitness and well-being adviser in Cambridge for a year.

For the past year she has been at the Blackberry Clinch in Ipswich as a health adviser, but is now looking forward to working full-time in football.

She said: “I am really excited to start working for Suffolk FA as this is the sector I want to work in. I want to work with people in the game, and retain and develop them as well as bringing in new people.

“I have always wanted to work for a County FA and work my way up and see where it takes me.”

Suffolk FA Chief Executive Richard Neal said: “Mel’s appointment will provide both our Refereeing and Services teams with much-needed additional capacity.

“We’re striving to ensure Suffolk FA is proactive, contactable, flexible, and is well positioned to support the Suffolk footballing community. During the recruitment process Mel displayed those qualities in abundance along with a keen appetite to work for Suffolk FA.

“I’m very excited to welcome Mel to the organisation, and she is set to be a fantastic asset to the team.”
